Ep. 1 — Anchorage Theater: Kick of the Gods

Panel 1

  • Ryota: “And I’m about to open my gym!”
  • Ryota: “I trained so hard!”
  • Ryota: “I even got a haircut!”
  • Ryota: “And my ribs are busted!”
  • Ryota: “And I still lost!!”

Panel 2

  • Lord Vishnu: “No time to mope!”
  • Ryota: “Whoa, snakes!”
  • Ryota: “No wait… Lord Vishnu!”

Panel 3

  • Lord Vishnu: “Who’re you calling a snake?!”
  • Lord Vishnu: “All things happen for a reason. Even in defeat, there was something to gain. Now, put it to use.”
  • Ryota: “Something to gain…!”

Panel 4

  • Ryota: “So… you’re saying I should’ve used an HKT48 song for my entrance?!”
  • Lord Vishnu: “That, I know nothing about!”

Notes

  • KING OF STRIKER: the kickboxing event where Ryota fought on June 1, 2014.
  • HKT48: a Fukuoka-based idol group (sister group of AKB48). Ryota’s “lesson from defeat” somehow lands on entrance music.
  • Vishnu: the Hindu god of preservation, here appearing with his serpent companions — much to his own annoyance.
